Winery Story
The southwest corner of Sardinia is a nearly perfect environment for the hot climate-loving grape varietals. Winters are mild and wet and summers torrid and dry with temperatures, stoked by the fierce African winds blowing across the Sardinian Sea, among the hottest in Italy. An average of seven hours of sunlight daily enables the fruit to reach a level of ripeness such that polymerization of the tannins begins within the berry while it is still on the vine.
Tasting Note
Barrua is deep crimson red in color with violet highlights and aromas of crushed fresh blackberries and a suave, silky palate supported by sweet, refined tannins and a fine note of acidity. Together, the color, fragrance, extract and alcohol achieve a degree of richness, which yields wine of opulent suppleness, elegant tannins and finely tuned acidity. This harmony comes as no surprise as Barrua is made by the world-renowned winemaker of Sassicaia, arguably the globe’s best Super Tuscan.

I now give cases as gifts and I've never had a complaint.

A super elegant Super Tuscan by the iconic winemaker of Saissicaia, made in Sardinia. Although half the price of Saissicaia, Barrua is by no means half the quality. An earthy yet elegant Italian red. A perfect gift for the Italian wine lover and serious wine enthusiasts alike.

Full bodied with dark fruit; well balanced and a long finish. Co-made by one of the great Italian producers.

What a great find! This bottle has the strength of Cabernet while still maintaining the complexity of spices that reminds you of Sardinia's Arab past. A great one to turn friends on to...as it makes you look like a super-aficionado (with hardly trying!)
