Winery Story

Cascina Adelaide has been a working winery with its own "cru" vineyards - vineyards recognized on the basis of exposure, altitude, and soil ... (more...)characteristics as producing the highest quality grapes in the region - for over 100 years. Despite its location just below the castello of Barolo, it was basically unknown outside the local area until Amabile Drocco bought the property in 1999 and modernized it. Investment was made in new equipment, a top agronomist and winemaker were engaged, and a new state-of-the-art gravity-fed winery building was added on the property. In short, the potential of Cascina Adelaide is now being realized: to become one of the best producers in an area where world-class wine is already the norm.

Tasting Note

Very intense and aromatic with immediate sweet fruit, floral and plum jam tones that are gentle edged with vanilla. A bit spicy and with goo... (more...)d depth. This is very elegant in the mouth with a soft almost delicate feel, but retains good weight and reasonable structure. The palate profile is dark and earthy with less obvious fruit than one typically finds with Barbera and the touch of wood spice adds to the slightly jammy blackberry fruit tones.
