Chapoutier Hermitage Le Pavillion - 1998

Chapoutier Hermitage Le Pavillion

Tasting Note

The quintessential expression of an assertive, confident personality, Braille has been present since 1996 on all M. Chapoutier labels. Far f... (more...)rom being anecdotic, this symbol draws its origin from the very history of the Hermitage vineyard. Maurice Monier de La Sizeranne, owner of the plot of the Hermitage, la Sizeranne, is also the inventor of the first version of abbreviated Braille. The trademark pays tribute to this man but also expresses the desire to reach out to and include all people with sight-impairments, lovers of good wines. Maison Chapoutier cultivates his vineyards biodynamically, as he has embraced the philosophy that the soil is living and expressive, and ought to come through in the wine.Deep intense nose, at first loaded with aromas of blackberry jam, extract of cassis, and then assuming broader characteristics of oriental spices, caramel, roasted coffee beans, earth aromas, a velvety nose but at the same time with an intense grip on the olfactory senses; rich and sweet in the mouth, but also wild; deep fruit with powerful smoke and smoked meat flavors; touch of leather, big bold tannins and balanced acidity; long spicy finish, a superb wine, although still in its infancy.
