Château Latour Pauillac

Tasting Note

In 1378, Château Latour "en Saint-Maubert", called later Château La Tour and then Château Latour, entered the annals of history. While th... (more...)e property is named for a tower, the actual building has disappeared. Although a tower remains on the property, it is not the one for which the property was named, as the existing Château was built between 1862 and 1864. Entirely renovated in the 1960s, it is currently owned by François Pinault, a French entrepreneur and businessman. In 1378, Château Latour "en Saint-Maubert", called later Château La Tour and then Château Latour, entered the annals of history. This wine has a complex and powerful nose with blueberry and blackberry aromas, earth, dry dusty aromas with tar, smoke, and sour mash in the nose. The wine is also quite dry with the flavors of the fruit engaged through a grainy filter of dry tannins and earth. It has a good solid finish with lots of balanced acidity and earthiness.

More complex and powerful nose with blueberry and blackberry aromas, earth, dry dusty aromas with tar, smoke, and sour mash in the nose; a more complex wine than the ’98, the wine is also quite drier with the flavors of the fruit engaged through a grainy filter of dry tannins and earth; the wine seems to be in one of its closed periods, as I think that there is more depth and complexity in this wine than is apparent at this time; good solid finish with lots of balanced acidity and earthy, somewhat coarse flavors. (17.5/20)
