More complex and powerful nose with blueberry and blackberry aromas, earth, dry dusty aromas with tar, smoke, and sour mash in the nose; a more complex wine than the ’98, the wine is also quite drier with the flavors of the fruit engaged through a grainy filter of dry tannins and earth; the wine seems to be in one of its closed periods, as I think that there is more depth and complexity in this wine than is apparent at this time; good solid finish with lots of balanced acidity and earthy, somewhat coarse flavors.
