Château Pichon-Lalande Pauillac

Tasting Note

Though originally created by a man, women have dominated this vineyard's impressive history. Virginie, Comtesse de Lalande, took charge of t... (more...)he vineyards in 1840, and with her hard work and shrewd management brought the status to Second Cru Classé in 1855. Handed down from aunts to nieces, by 1920 the vineyard was in a state of disrepair owing to the First World War. At this point, Edouard and Louis Miailhe, descendants of an old Bordeaux family of Vineyard owners and wine dealers, bought the property in 1925. In keeping with tradition, May Eliane de Lencquesaing, Edouard's daughter, currently manages the property.Though originally created by a man, women have dominated this vineyard's impressive history. The wine opens with all of the elements of a Pichon, with sweet aromas mixed with earth, perfumed and aromatic. It is also sweet and rich in the mouth with fully mature fruit now producing a deeply textured wine but with focus and flavor.

Expert NoteDecember 19, 2005
Opens with all of the elements of a Pichon, with sweet aromas mixed with earth, perfumed and aromatic, quite floral as is the wont of these wines, elegant and rich; sweet and rich in the mouth with fully mature fruit now producing a deeply textured wine but with focus and flavor; nicely integrated and softened tannins provide a thick curtain for the fruit; no sign of aging in this bottle, and powerful focus throughout; long finish; this remains one of the best of the ‘83’s, and is now in full flower. (18.5/20)
