Château Tour Simard Saint-Emilion Grand Cru - 1999(W-102)

Château Tour Simard Saint-Emilion Grand Cru
Big Powerful

Winery Story

Chateau Tour Simard is the second wine of Château Pavie 1er Grand Cru Classé St-Emilion. In the 4th century, the hillsides of Ausone and P... (more...)avie were planted with the first vines to arrive in the region. Château Pavie is set on one of the most famous plots of land in St Emilion, where, up to the 18th century "pavies" (red-fleshed peaches) grew; at the time the St Emilion limestone plateau was used for mixed farming

Tasting Note

This wine is Château Pavie's second label, and is a fantastic representation of a Saint-Emilion blend. It has a rich, dark bouquet of cassi... (more...)s and chocolate with bright, ripe fruit flavors, smooth, well integrated tannins, and pleasant earthy grittiness.

Really delicious St. Emilion Bordeaux. Lean, elegant, with robust "staying power." A go-to for my personal consumption

Buen vino, aun esta muy joven se debe conservar para beberlo en 6 anos, y se disfrutara de un vino excelente, en una buena bodega

Still a little too young. Recommend cellaring for 2-4 more years.

A bit too fruity for my taste, but liked the earthiness. Almost too heavy.

This is a great wine. A little gamey but very pleasant. I actually found that accompanied by poulty, a lot of cherry and jammy flavors came out. Without food, though, it comes across as a big, strong man's wine. I gave it 3 stars. --------- 4 months later: 6/30/07, I tried the Tour Simard and loved it! gets lots of complexity from it's 3 soil types: gravel, clay and soil. Really, really soft and yummy thanks to the merlot. Great with soft, salty, stiny cheese!

This wine had a nice backbone to it and a very smooth finish. It took me awhile to get a real handle on the flavors at work here, but there was a really nice earthiness to this one. A bit drier than I had expected, but overall an excellent wine.

Nutmeg & cloves on nose evolve into black cherry undertones, cigar flavors on mid-palate. Tannins are still firm- would stand to cellar another 3-5 years. A lovely wine!
