The topographical s... (more...)tructure, quality of the soil and climate, make the mountains of the Galilee an ideal location for growing vineyards with grapes of the highest quality. Golan Heights Winery had long been aware of the region's premium qualities and consequently began planting vineyards in the Kadesh Valley as early as 1995 jointly with Kibbutz Malkiya and Kibbutz Yiftach. In 1997, the first vineyard was planted in Kibbutz Yiron and at the same time the kibbutz decided to establish a winery amidst the natural landscape surrounding it. In 2000, Galil Mountain Winery, a joint venture of Golan Heights Winery and Kibbutz Yiron, was established. The winery is an enterprise that combines the unique features of the Upper Galilee region with the expertise of the Golan Heights Winery in producing top quality wines. The winery has five vineyards in the Upper Galilee Mountains, characterized by different topographical and climatic conditions. This unique feature enables us to produce blends using a large variety of grapes. 90% of the harvest consists of red grapes used for Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Barbera and Sangiovese. The rest are white grapes grown for Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. The winery, designed by architects Weinstein and Vaadia, demonstrates an innovative architectural concept. The design and structure of the winery is based on a perception of comprehensive tourism. A visitor to the winery can enjoy a total experience, which includes a view of the local landscape as well as a view of the inner halls with their stainless steel tanks and oak barrels.
