Winery Story

Winery Gritsch Mauritiushof, located in Austria's Wachau region, is named for the Gritsch family who have owned the property since 1799 and ... (more...)for the beautiful old building there called “Mauritiushof.” This house stands in the heart of the town of Spitz and dates back to the 13th century when it was used by monks to collect the local grapes.

Tasting Note

Peach is the typical note for Riesling, but in the Wachau region apricot and vineyard peaches are more typical. Some of these grapes had bot... (more...)rytis at the harvest and they were then separated out and pressed independently. The rest of the grapes were ‘clean’ and were kept that way. After pressing, the botrytis grapes were filtered. Some of that must was used to give the wine a bit of body, and this combination was fermented together. It was aged in large oak barrels.
