As winemaker Greg Lafollette expressed years ago in Halleck Vineyards, a great wine starts with good bones on which a winemaker can then han... (more...)g things. Their vineyard managers use a variety of farming techniques to accomplish just that. They choose vineyards based on the specific clones, site location and flavor profiles historically produced from them. They consistently spend time within the rows, paying attention to the subtleties of the vines, the architecture of the clusters, the diurnal fluctuation of the leaves, and the texture and flavor development of the seeds as they macerate them in their mouths.

Tasting Note

Deep, dark and impressive, the aromas of this distinctive Pinot are of boysenberry, red plum, cherry liqueur, minerals, black tea, smoke, ea... (more...)rth and a panetone-like hint of bready-fruity spice. It is full and quite forthcoming on the palate and has a sinewy mouthfeel, as its flavors of black tea, minerally-earthy spice, crushed rose and boysenberry fan out on the palate. Super-long and well-braced with tannin, the finish reinforces the wine's general impressions of deep flavor and coiled strength.

I really like this Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Barnyard and red cherry on the nose with rich cherry/plum flavors on the palate and a slightly spicy finish. Very smooth.
