Hermitage Hermitage “Chante Alouette” Chapoutier - 1996
December 19, 2005
This turned out not to be a favorite, the wine seems more advanced and aged than its age suggests; classic nose of honeyed fruit and candle wax, exotic and intense aromas that evoke white flowers, but at the same time spicy and a bit hot; sweet in the front of the mouth with lots of honeyed fruit flavors, spicy and exotic, but the wine has a hard, alcoholic undercurrent that detracts from its otherwise exotic nature; the finish is, as a consequence, too alcoholic and coarse for me, and I have had better wines from this producer.
