Winery Story
This venerable, family-run Alsace winery was founded in 1854 by Aloyse Meyer, great-grandfather of Jean Meyer. Aloyse enhanced the reputation of the wines from the best local sites-in particular, those from the Hengst and Brand vineyards, now classified as Grand Crus. He earned early accolades for the firm, which he turned over to his son Joseph in 1933. In 1941, Joseph placed the firm in his son Hubert’s control. Hubert boldly developed the firm’s export markets in the post-war period, and eventually placed the now-modern winery, known as Josmeyer, under the direction of his son, Jean Meyer, and Jean’s son-in-law Christopher Ehrhart.
Tasting Note
This rich, floral wine offers the classic elements of a Riesling: accents of apple and mineral, dry in the mouth with intensity and power that make it such a great wine for food pairing.
