Medlock Ames Bell Mountain Ranch Red

Winery Story

Medlock Ames is a small "green" winery tucked into the hills in Sonoma's Alexander Valley. The winemaker, who spent time in the Peace Corps ... (more...)and as an ESL teacher in the Bronx before learning winemaking, believes in sustainable agriculture as a means to a better worker and neighbor relations as well as better wine. A winery to watch!

Tasting Note

Appearance: lovely deep ruby colornose: aromas of very ripe red-black fruits including plum, dark cherry and blackberry. Also dehydrated fru... (more...)its including fig, prune and date. Then, cocoa bean, licorice, and coconut. Toast and some butterscotch; a little stone and flint. Finally: smoke.palate: dry, moderate acid and tannin; youthful flavors of ripe red and black fruits including cherry, cassis and plum. Some baking spices. Also cocoa and toffee. Length is really impressive and finishes with ripe fruits and a hint of fig.

Definitely experienced the spiciness. I also tasted vegetal flavors at the front of the wine. Full-throated red. Comfortable tannins.

Hot damn this is a tasty wine! The entire package considered - it's attractive price point (about $25), fabulously aromatic nose, delightfully rich and spicy palate AND the fact that these guys use sustainable farming methods and other very cool GREEN applications in making the stuff - this wine is a five, hands down.

a perfect wine - smooth and soft - but rich.
