Pretty Sally Estate was established in 1996 with a single mission: to produce world class wines that over-deliver. Its commitment to excelle... (more...)nce begins in the vineyard, as only exceptional grapes can produce great wines. Its focus is on detailed vineyard management coupled with expert winemaking. The location of their vineyard, 40 miles north of Melbourne in Central Victoria, was selected for its ideal soil and climatic conditions. its winemaking philosophy is one of minimal intervention, enabling the process to follow its natural course. John Ellis, Pretty Sally's winemaker, insists that the flavors be in the fruit in the first place. Nothing is added to affect flavors other than traditional fermentation and oak aging techniques.

Tasting Note

On the nose are perfumed, plush, cherry and black pepper aromas. Flavors of candied berry fruit and jammy spice follow, creating a juicy and... (more...) smooth finish.

Smooth and full of flavor. A slightly spicy finish tops it off--enjoyed it very much.

I loved this, too. Not sure which reds I don't like, but there have to be some. I think I liked this better than the smooth and elegant.

YUM! I love how hearty this is! plus, with a name like "Pretty Sally" it's just fun to say, "could you please pass the pretty sally!" haha! This is just a yummy, meaty, delicious wine that I could easily drink all day.

Really needed an hour to open up - but once it did we liked the spiciness and fullness. A little jammier than we usually like, but the spice balanced that well.

I flirted with the idea of rating it a 5 because for a shiraz at this price it could not have been better. But with those qualifications, it deserves a 4. One of the darkest wines I have ever seen. Flavors of black pepper overlayed on cherry/cranberry fruit. Has a dark tartness and high alcohol that needs to be served with a protein dish (not Italian pasta, etc). Too fruity for steak. A winter beef roast would be perfect or lamb would be really nice. Its just too dark for pork or tuna flavors, despite the fruityness.
