Ramat HaGolan Winery (Yarden) Merlot - 2004
August 10, 2009
This is one of my favourite wines from Israel. Even though I'm usually not a huge fan of merlot - this one is different. I remember tasting it for the first time and being captivated on the spot. Just wanted to take another sip & another. It is exceptionally powerful, complex, and has an infinite finish. Gorgeous nose with dark cherries, mint, eukalypt, granite & hints of pomegranate. Rich midpalate, fruity with a nice kick. Needs to open up a bit in the glass. I serve it with sirloin steak or a rib roast cut into generous bloody slices ouzing with fat.
