Spring Mountain Elivette Reserve - 2002(W-467)

Spring Mountain Elivette Reserve
Big Powerful

Winery Story

Spring Mountain Vineyard is an 945-acre estate on the eastern slopes of Spring Mountain. Over 225 acres of the estate are planted to vine, r... (more...)epresenting 135 distinct hillside vineyard blocks with many soil types, exposures, and microclimates. Originally four individual 19th century Napa Valley vineyards, Miravalle, Alba, Chevalier and La Perla are now one vineyard producing estate-bottled wines. Growing primarily Bordeaux grape varieties, the vineyard yields distinctive mountain wines that consistently display concentration, elegance and longevity.

Tasting Note

Our 2002 vintage Elivette is a deeply hued blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The aromas are a heady complexion of rasp... (more...)berries, blackberry jam and dark chocolate with nuances of kola and dark spices. Over 22 months of aging in French oak has softened the tannins and shaped the wine into a lush and textural delight. Loaded with a concentration of jammy fruit and hints of black licorice, it is an opulent expression of our Bordeaux varieties as they come to full ripeness on the slopes of Spring Mountain. The full-bodied and redolent nature of this wine begs to be enjoyed immediately, but its shape and structure describe a wine that won’t reach its peak for another 10 years.

One of Napa's finest Cabs. Blackberry, subtle cocoa powder, and sweet tobacco perfumes are balanced by silky, chalky tannins. A truly delicious California Cab.

About the biggest, richest, deepest wine I've ever tasted. It's pure bass notes, packed with concentrated fruit flavor, with a loooooooong never ending liccorice finish. Drink it with a grand meal, something with substance. Something with meat. If I had to say anything critical it would be the same comment I'd use as praise. It's all very deep, deep bass notes and richness. No high acidity or lightness to counter. That said, I wouldn't ever turn down a glass.

I almost gave this wine 2 stars based on the fact that is costs 90 bones. It is big and powerful but tannins are pretty strong and doesn't go down that smooth....but that's just one man's opinion. Maybe it was the plastic glasses....will have to try it again.
