Winery Story
Te Awa Farm is a unique place. The full name in Maori - Te Awa o Te Atua - means River of God, a reference to the mysterious subterranean streams over which Te Awa Farm sits, and from which its single estate grown wines draw their sublime character. In 1992 the Lawson family -- longtime grape growers -- established the Hawke's Bay property.
Tasting Note
This is a nice, mellow Chardonnay with delicate aromas of peach, cream, and honeysuckle. Honey flavors continue in the mouth with a leesy character, light butter, and a long, smooth, sweet finish.
Te Awa Chardonnay(W-126) - 2004

Full, LushLight, fruity, crisp and refreshing. Yet it also had a lot of depth. Really nice wine for the value. Great as an aperitif or with a light fish dish.

This wine was just too tart... made it difficult to enjoy anything else about it. The aftertaste reminded me of biting into citrus rinds. Too bad!

Amazing. A favorite. This had a sweet top note but was dry underneath. I want another case! Not too oaky....

I love this wine. Very clean, with hints of apricot. Amazing that it's a chardonnay, especially because it does not at all resemble its over-oaked cousins in Cali. Be sure to drink in one sitting, though. It doesn't do so well after sitting overnight.

Not my favorite. As Chardonnays go, this one isn't bad. However, some of the flavors get a little zesty like a sauv blanc (makes sense from NZ). While I like sauv blancs with chardonnay traits, I don't think the inverse works as well. Not a very strong reaction either way. Did not consume with a meal.

Phenomenal, light and fruity wine. Very atypical chardonnay - reminiscent of Sancerre and fruity Sauvignon Blanc. March 26, 2006.
