Spring Mountain District

Overview

Located on the eastern side of the Mayacamas Mountains in the center of Napa, the Spring Mountain District is known for its variety. Vineyards stretch up into the Mayacamas, and can be found at elevations anywhere between 500 and 2,100 feet. The soil high in the mountains is thin and volcanic and imparts a tannic structure reminiscent of the nearby Howell Mountain AVA. Lower down, the soil is richer and deeper and produces very fruity wines. The growing season here is long, and Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, and Bordeaux varieties all do well.
