St Helena

Overview

Located directly north of Rutherford, St. Helena is the newest official district in Napa. The first vintages have not yet indicated a clear direction for the future of the region, but the emphasis appears to be in Merlot, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay, and watching St. Helena in the next few years should prove very interesting.

With regard to the St. Helena’s AVA status, some objections were raised over its small size. Indeed, recent years have seen smaller and smaller districts carved out of Napa. With districts now reaching down the community level, Napa is beginning to look a bit like the Médoc in France.
