Cinsaut ("Hermitage")

A red wine grape originally from the Rhône Valley, the demure Cinsaut grapes are quick to ripen making them attractive to producers for its good yields. The fruity grapes are often used in blends especially in rosés like Tavel from the Rhône Valley and Chardonnays. In South Africa the Cinsaut grape was once known as Hermitage, and was cross-bred with Pinot Noir to create South Africa's famous Pinotage. The Cinsaut is combined with a few other varieties grown in Lebanon to create their Cheateau Musar wine from the Bekka Valley.
