Nick Faldo Cabernet Sauvignon -2006 (WE-111894)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Produced in association with Katnook Estate, this is an easy-drinking Cabernet with substantial oak influence. The cranberry and currant fruit is rather herbal and even peppery, but it’s cushioned by cedar and vanilla, turning silky-textured on the finish. 1 Note

Katnook Estate Chardonnay -2002 (WE-43237)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Though the nose is a pretty combination of almond, meat and citrus, this Chard’s steely, angular frame carries more than its share of buttered-toast flavors. Butter and wood punctuate the finish as well. Tasted twice, with consistent results. Imported by Freixenet USA. 1 Note

Hollick Chardonnay -1998 (WE-5022)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This tasty and well-balanced offering opens with lemon, vanilla custard and toasty notes. Handsome use of oak frames the tropical fruit well, restraining it without burying it, while a considerable leesy element adds interest and depth. The round mouthfeel is pleasing, and the lingering, complex finish rounds out the impressive package. 1 Note

Rymill Shiraz -1996 (WE-2261)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Concentrated and inviting, with leathery sweet-and-spicy flavors. Warm in the mouth, there’s heft but also balance. Complex and well made, this is a sexy wine that shows versatility at the table. For whatever reason the sum is bigger than its parts. 1 Note

Jim Barry Cabernet Sauvignon -2000 (WE-40933)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The first vintage of Jim Barry's second Coonawarra Cabernet, this is an enjoyable, flavorful wine with mixed plum and oak notes pervading, and firm tannins on the palate. Superior to, but maybe not as charismatic as, Barry's Cover Drive Cabernet. Drink 2006–2008. 1 Note

Hollick Chardonnay -1999 (WE-13928)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Slightly over the top and disjointed, the sweet honey, butterscotch, toast and baked Golden Delicious aromas and flavors at war with powerful acids. The elements are all here, just not working together. 1 Note

Katnook Estate Chardonnay -2000 (WE-23055)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Unusual nectarine and tangerine flavors are accented by some ginger, but make no mistake—there’s still lots of wood-derived cream and butter here, particularly on the nose and on the finish. 1 Note

Yangarra Park Cabernet Sauvignon -2001 (WE-25505)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

So massive in fruity-berry flavor, so young and acidic now, it’s practically undrinkable, although a greasy leg of lamb will work. The solid core of blackcurrants and rich, thick tannins suggest cellaring for a couple years. 1 Note

Di Giorgio Family Wines Sparkling Blend -NV (WE-30351)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This pinkish-coppery sparkling wine tastes as it looks: on the sweet side, fun but simple, with ginger and raspberry flavors and a sugary finish. A good bet for a birthday party—it’s both festive and perhaps sweet enough to stand up to cake. 1 Note

Jim Barry Cabernet Sauvignon -2008 (WE-113399)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Representing a good value in top-flight Cabernet, Jim Barry’s 2008 The Cover Drive (a cricketing term) features subtle hints of cinnamon, coffee and vanilla layered over blueberry and plum fruit. It’s on the full-bodied side, with plush, velvety tannins balanced by crisp acids. Drink now–2018. 1 Note
