Shows the wood from barrel fermentation and maturation a bit on the nose, but also plenty of citrus. It’s broad, yet reined in a bit by oak spice right now, needing time to flesh out. Hard to say it’s better than the excellent ’04 version, but it’s still excellent. 1 Note

Huge, spicy wood dominates this powerful wine. It also has good acidity, which gives it a lift and liveliness. At the moment, though, wood is right up front, leaving the apricot fruit flavors stuck in the background. Give it three or four years to develop. 1 Note

A fine, well-made wine. It brings out the serious character of fine Hermitage, as well as emphasizing its great black fruits and acidity. There are leather aromas, spice and herb flavors and huge, solid tannins. The only taste that spoils is the oxidative character that comes through. 1 Note

A modern, rich, almost new-world style of wine in its open fruit and generous new wood flavors. Ripe peaches and nectarines give the wine great richness. At this stage, the wood is still too dominant, but over the next four or five years, the opulent fruit will certainly balance out. 1 Note

A wine that is dominated by ripe exotic fruits, plums and a hint of green figs. There is wood, but it is not at all obvious, while the ripeness is balanced with a touch of acidity and some attractive bitter-almond flavors. 1 Note

Philippe Desmeure has two small parcels of the Hermitage hill, near Jaboulet’s La Chapelle vineyard. With malolactic fermentation in the barrel, and 100% new wood, this wine, named after his daughter, has sweetness, richness, black fruits and firm, dry tannins. This sample was spoiled by an animal rusticity that may fade as the wine ages. 1 Note

A rich, lushly textured wine made from 100% Marsanne that’s barrel fermented, but with the malolactic fermentation blocked. Notes of oranges and apricots lead the way, with an appealing hint of almond. Easy to drink. 1 Note

Complexity pours off the wine's nose in the form of fine herbs, meatiness, floral spice and deep black fruit. It's as full and creamy as you could want, with very ripe but balanced blackberry, pepper and more. Maybe a bit soft and over-the-top, but that just means it's more ready to go than most Hermitage reds. 1 Note
