Xanadu Sauvignon Blanc -2002 (WE-28280)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Medium and round in the mouth, there’s a base of stone fruit flavors here, but what makes this wine interesting is a resiny-olive oil note on the palate. Finishes with citrus pith and grass flavors. 1 Note

This wine’s not going to knock you out with bright, overpowering fruit, but that’s what I like about it. It has yellow stone fruit and olive-oil notes on the palate, plus a nice minerally component. Smooth and viscous in the mouth; a blend of 54% Sémillon, 36% Sauvignon Blanc and 10% Chardonnay. 1 Note

Mandu Cabernet Sauvignon -2004 (WE-61913)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This is a big, full-bodied, highly extracted wine, with some chewy tannins and slightly elevated alcohol on the finish. Flavors are oaky and dark, with chocolate and cassis joined by a hint of roasted pepper. A bit of a bruiser; drink it now with rare beef or lamb to help mellow its tannins, or age it several years and see if it develops more finesse. 1 Note

Amberley Chenin Blanc -2004 (WE-41469)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This isn’t a wine to age or mull over, but I like it very much. It has aromas of white stone fruit and fresh grass, and tastes like yellow peach, mango and other tropical fruit. It’s upbeat, summery and pleasing. Imported by Oenophilia Imports. 1 Note

Devil's Lair White Blend -2003 (WE-34558)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Though this white is a blend of 48% Semillion, 40% Sauvignon, and 12% Chardonnay, the flavors and aromas—crisp lemon zest, fresh grass and herb—say "Sauvignon." The weight that the other two varieties add to the mouthfeel is a kind of a disconnect from its fresh, lean flavors, but it's still a good wine whose size may recommend it more for dinner, than pre-dinner, drinks. 1 Note

Wise Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon -2002 (WE-55238)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

There’s not much body or intensity to this Shiraz-Cab, and what’s here is pretty odd. Aromas and flavors run the gamut from sautéed mushrooms in gravy to lifted fruit to Blow Pop. Confused. Imported by The Australian Wine Connection. 1 Note

Mandu Cabernet Sauvignon -2003 (WE-56198)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This narrow, value-priced wine is unusual in its category because its dominating notes are earthy, woodsy ones, rather than forwardly fruity ones. Has edgy, wooly tannins that would make it a ready partner for some charbroiled meats. Imported by The Country Vintner. 1 Note

Devil's Lair Red Blend -2001 (WE-27415)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

It’s not a big-boned wine, but its powdery tannins give it texture to spare. Mixed plums and cherries are out in full force on the palate. A blend of Cabernet, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. 1 Note
