Salena Estate Shiraz -1999 (WE-11422)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

There’s so much going on in the ’99 Salena Estate, that it can’t help but please everyone: Juicy blackberries are front and center on the nose and in the mouth; cedar, tobacco and dried herbs give the palate added complexity. Big, chewy mouthfeel? Check. Chocolate, vanilla and truffle aromas will throw you for a loop; even tannins, and licorice and mineral flavors, tie this Shiraz up nicely. 1 Note

RockBare Chardonnay -2001 (WE-16527)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This powerful, intense wine starts with scents of lemon curd enriched by butter and hints of peach and vanilla. Flavors are similar, but incorporate a saltwater note and an extremely tangy finish, which impart a coarseness that the wine’s intensity can’t overcome. 1 Note

Devil's Lair Red Blend -2001 (WE-27415)

It’s not a big-boned wine, but its powdery tannins give it texture to spare. Mixed plums and cherries are out in full force on the palate. A blend of Cabernet, Shiraz, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. 1 Note

Made in a very bright and fruit-forward style, the 2007 Magnus Riesling offers a pleasing mouthful of fruit that should be consumed young. Lime, tangerine and apple blossom aromas and green apple and citrus flavors are immediately pleasing, ending on a crisp, mouthwatering note. 1 Note

This wine earns every penny of its modest price tag with a bright palate of petrol, talcum powder and wet stones propping up aromas of white flowers, cumin and lime. The finish could be longer but with this stunning nose and palate, we’re not complaining. Drink now. 1 Note

Red Knot Cabernet Sauvignon -2007 (WE-86453)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Thick and pulpy in texture, this wine delivers a mouthful of syrupy black cherry and herb flavors. Fits some of the stereotypes of Aussie wines—positive and negative. 1 Note

Razor's Edge Cabernet Sauvignon -2006 (WE-78237)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A very good effort, this may be among the last great values to emerge from Australia, as smaller crops and changing currencies will undoubtedly take their toll. It’s remarkable that McLaren Vale fruit can go into a $12 bottle. Black cherry fruit is presented on a medium-bodied, softly tannic frame, embellished by hints of cola and eucalyptus. Finishes soft, with a fine texture of charcoal dust and lingering cassis flavors. 1 Note
