Wirra Wirra White Blend -1999 (WE-5137)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The Aussies like to mix and match their white grapes: Here it’s Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay in descending amounts, and with great results. Pleasant and floral-smelling, with just a whiff of enticing mint or grass. In the mouth, it’s the all-out fruit-bowl approach, with lime and peach most vivid. Juicy, clean, acidic and fresh. A perfect apéritif wine. Best Buy. 1 Note

Wynns Coonawarra Estate Chardonnay -1997 (WE-1755)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Wood and apple aromas open this wine, and the profile continues onto the palate. Fairly weighty in the mouth, but the body is almost all from the oak. Closes rather one-dimensionally, too, with quite heavy wood that suppresses the fruit. 1 Note

Lindemans Chardonnay -1997 (WE-1759)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Lindemans knows how to make crowd-pleasers. Lots of oak over the pineappley tropical fruit. Closes with a full, satisfying finish and tastes similar to (and as good as) many more expensive wines. Its less-expensive Bin 65 Chardonnay is also good, but the Padthaway is somewhat larger-scaled and more complex. 1 Note

Yering Station Pinot Noir -2008 (WE-113651)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Effectively the third-tier effort from this producer (there’s a regular bottling and a reserve in vintages that warrant them), the 2008 Little Yering is nonetheless a respectable Pinot Noir. It’s undeniably herbal in tone, but matches those elements with modest cherry fruit, a slightly chunky texture and a tangy finish. Drink now. 1 Note

Reilly's Riesling -2004 (WE-47329)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Like Reilly’s Watervale bottling, this will certainly inspire debate. The nose offers pineapple, resin and waxy melon, and the palate deals a similar waxy, tart, Pixie-Stix kind of profile. I admire its tanginess and intensity—less enamored with the bulky feel—but its flavors are certainly atypical. Imported by Southern Starz, Inc. 1 Note

Elder Vine Shiraz -2002 (WE-45687)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Though it’s Barossa, the wine is showing the coolness of the vintage in the form of cherry and black cherry fruit flavors. It’s pretty fragrant on the nose, too, the cherry bolstered by pine and nut aromas. Fine, minerally tannins complete the picture. 1 Note

Nugan Family Estates Chardonnay -2008 (WE-107496)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

On the lean side, with a simple yet appealing nose of lime and pine needles, and a soft palate. There’s some citrus interest to the modest finish and a suggestion of sweetness. Drink up. 1 Note

Annie's Lane Chardonnay -2003 (WE-34162)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Has light, pleasant vanilla, paraffin and white peach aromas. It’s plump in the mouth, with lots of wood and spice, and a side order of stone fruit. Finishes a little thin. A nice wine; it’s hard to come by a Clare appellation bottle at this price. 1 Note

The Lucky Country Grenache -2003 (WE-39297)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Cherry and earth aromas, with a hint of Sweet Tart. On the palate, it's a straightforward tea-and-cherry flavored wine with a slightly creamy fatness on the midpalate. 85% Grenache, 10% Shiraz, 5% Mourvedre. 1 Note

Browns of Padthaway Verdelho -2002 (WE-33408)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Bright green-gold in color, with aromas as disparate as fresh green pea and chili spice. On the palate, there’s more fresh green peas (odd flavor, but pleasant) swimming in a sea of bright yellow fruit. Medium in body; finish is somewhat abrupt. 1 Note
