This is everything I could hope for in a Cabernet. Absolutely fabulous wine with layers of complexity. It's no wonder that year after year this is one of the top scoring Chilean wines. Aromas of dark fruit and currant. Beautiful structure and soft tannins. A slight hint of smokiness. This wine is drinking nicely after ten years.

Rich flavors included pronounced oak and nice, tropical fruit such as pineapple. It had nice, crisp acidity and just left a refreshing aftertaste. I was not disappointed. I was bit worried that it may not have been enough to overtake the ham and pungent Swiss cheese filling of chicken cordon bleu, but they well together. If you’re in the mood for a good California-styled oaky Chardonnay, then save yourself a few dollars and go with San Elias. $8

Typical of many young Cabernets, the color was an intense ruby with bright red edges on the tip. The aromas consisted of plum, dark berry fruit and some tobacco. Flavors were complex beginning with plum, dark berries, cassis, and finishing with some sweet cherries. The finish was nice and long with some oak-tinged cherry left on the palate before dissipating. The taste is uniquely different with a blend of Old and New World styles, meaning it had initial earthiness which combined with a big fruit concentration. It’s an interesting combination. I highly recommend this wine, and you can’t beat the price for complexity and taste: $16.
