Kumeu River Sauvignon Blanc -2008 (WE-113633)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A decent effort, if nowhere near up to the level of the winery’s Chardonnays, Kumeu River’s 2008 Sauvignon Blanc starts off with some slightly rubbery notes that give way to pungent herbs and a touch of grapefruit. Finishes stridently herbal. 1 Note

Peregrine Pinot Gris -2002 (WE-27073)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

So floral on the nose that you might mistake it at first for a Riesling, but the flavors of baked apples and pears and mouthcoating texture speak of Pinot Gris. 1 Note

Mud House Pinot Noir -2008 (WE-107044)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Mud House winemaker Nadine Worley has turned out an authoritatively flavored 2008 Pinot Noir, loaded with tart cherries and a hint of citrus zest. While this medium-bodied Pinot Noir could use greater doses of delicacy and nuance, it’s still a flavorful mouthful of wine. Drink it over the next few years. 1 Note

Kumeu River Chardonnay -2004 (WE-51815)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Kumeu River’s entry-level Chard is now available in the U.S., but it doesn’t really compare to its upscale brethren. It’s got pretty peach and citrus aromas and flavors, but not the richness, weight or length to warrant a higher rating. Imported by Wilson Daniels Ltd. 1 Note

Torlesse Sauvignon Blanc -2005 (WE-55959)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Plump and mouthfilling, this Sauvignon Blanc offers ripe pink grapefruit and gooseberry flavors that veer toward red berries and stone fruits, yet maintain a sense of focus thanks to crisp lime and grapefruit notes on the finish. 1 Note

Pegasus Bay Sauvignon Blanc -2000 (WE-16048)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Aromas of toast, apricot, mint, honey and field dust make for a complex bouquet. The honeyed palate yields a trace of green herbs along with lemon rind and white pepper. Obviously there’s a lot going on here, and for some it may be too “out there.” For others it will be a spot-on Kiwi offering with lots of individuality and character. 1 Note

Kumeu River Sauvignon Blanc -2009 (WE-127795)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Sauvignon Blanc has never been a focus at Kumeu River, and this is an overly lean, green and underripe rendering. 1 Note

The Crossings Pinot Noir -2009 (WE-117641)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A disappointing effort, showing a weedy, hay-like profile and fruit that is drying out on the finish. Barely acceptable. 1 Note

Man O' War Chardonnay -2008 (WE-129093)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Full-bodied and richly textured, this is a mouthful of Chardonnay for the price, boasting vibrant pineapple fruit and accents of toasty oak and roasted nuts. Crisp, long and spicy on the finish. Drink now. 1 Note

Palliser Estate Sauvignon Blanc -2006 (WE-69901)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Palliser’s wines seem to be improving across the range over recent vintages, with this being their best Sauvignon Blanc yet. A smoky, slightly fumé character marks the nose, then ripe peaches and nectarines wash across the palate, with just enough grassiness to impart varietal character. Plump and round, it’s soft and approachable without being sloppy, ending on a note of ripe tangerines. Drink now. 1 Note
