The entry-level Chardonnay from Kumeu River gives just a taste of what heights its Chardonnays can achieve. With only one third aged in oak, the wine comes across as rather fruity and direct, with pleasant pear, pineapple and melon flavors and a round, easygoing style. 1 Note

Ostensibly the second label of Palliser Estate, the 2007 Pencarrow shows plenty of plum, earth and coffee aromas and flavors, a brawny, rustic style and a concentrated, slightly tannic finish. It should drink well for 5–6 years. 1 Note
