A Wine

Long Flat Chardonnay -2006 (WE-77517)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Creamy and soft in texture, this is a rich, full-flavored Chardonnay that should prove to be a crowd-pleaser. The tangerine and melon flavors go down dangerously easy, accented by scents of crème brûlée, and the price is remarkably fair for the quality. 1 Note

Yarra Burn Chardonnay -2002 (WE-34572)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This Yarra Valley mainstay has aromas of olive oil and herb framing tropical fruit. Its fruit-cocktail flavor profile is refreshing and clean, but, as one reviewer points out, finishes with a heavy dose of charred wood. 1 Note

Sticks Cabernet Sauvignon -2002 (WE-34611)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Though this wine grips the midpalate with some enthusiasm, the impact on palate entry and finish is less impressive. Red fruit rules here, including traces of roasted tomato. Imported by Click Wine Group. 1 Note

De Bortoli Rosé -2003 (WE-37318)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A vibrant wine, but one whose flavors and aromas err on the side of strawberry shortcake, whipped cream and cheese. Dessert in a glass. 1 Note

De Bortoli Sangiovese -2002 (WE-38644)

Aromas are somehwt stewed and Portlike, with some fireplace smoke thrown in. Has smooth, woodsy tannins and cherry and plum fruit. Dries out on the finish with tangy herb/citrus flavors. 1 Note

Rutherglen Estates Red Blend -2004 (WE-54215)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A blend of 40% Mourvèdre, 35% Shiraz and 25% Grenache; it’s a lighter-body wine, full of black cherry flavors and ready to drink now. Finishes with a smoky-char note. Imported by USA Wine West. 1 Note

Boggy Creek Chardonnay -2004 (WE-53036)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This unwooded Chard is elegant and a little austere, but very nice. It has a sturdy spine with a dry, mineral texture and light pear and citrus flavors. The finish isn’t tremendous at first, but lengthens and reveals citrus flavors with some time in the glass. 500 cases. Imported by Indigo Wine Group. 1 Note

Boggy Creek Cabernet Sauvignon -2003 (WE-53037)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Out of the chute, the aromas are sweet and cloying, but settle to reveal cured meat and leather notes. Purple fruit on the palate has its share of stably, briary accents, on through the finish. It’s not the deepest, broadest wine on the block, but its unusual profile merits it a look, particularly with food. Imported by Indigo Wine Group. 1 Note

Redbank Shiraz -1999 (WE-11915)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Redbank? More like redwood. Though most reviewers found cedar and toast to be the predominant flavors and aromas in the Fighting Flat, others identified pleasing spice and coffee notes on the nose, and cherry and cocoa flavors on the palate. Finishes tart, with—you guessed it—dry, smoked-wood flavors. 1 Note

Cooralook Shiraz -2007 (WE-99156)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Cooralook is making very good wines at affordable prices, and this Shiraz is in the same vein. It’s immediately approachable, offering crisp raspberry fruit tinged with herbal-grassy-briary notes and a softly dusty finish. It’s an easy sipper that won’t overpower most dishes. 1 Note
