Bright aromas of apricots, peaches and honey. Apple, nutmeg and honeydew melon flavors. The mouth buzzes with crisp acidity and a zing that makes it seem quasicarbonated. The finish builds to a sweet-tart crescendo. A tight and classy off-dry wine, perfect for Chinese and other Asian foods. 1 Note

Shows its Pinot origins in the body, which is fat and firmly flavored with raspberries and tobacco. Dry and attractive, this blush wine is robust enough to enjoy with lamb chops. 1 Note

Lots of oak inthe nose, with black cherry, earth, stewed tomato, plum and other components. Drinks bitter and sharp, with high acidity. The austere plum and earth flavors finish with a tannic sour. This is a wine that cries out for olive oil. 1 Note

Cariad is an interesting Bordeaux blend, the ’05 consisting of Cab Sauvignon, Merlot, Cab Franc and Petit Verdot. It feels a little tentative now, as if the components are still learning how to mesh. There’s a shy, tannic quality to the cherry, currant, chocolate and plum flavors, and a glyceriney mouthfeel that makes the wine slippery smooth. Give it a few years of cellaring, and it should perform well through 2017, at least. 1 Note

Dark as the grave, and pretty closed in the aroma right now, offering up hints of blackberry, pepper, earth, chocolate and bacon. Tastes late-picked, with pruny flavors and lots of mouth-numbing tannins, although the alcohol is a modest 13.7%. What it lacks in depth and nuance it makes up for with sheer chutzpah. 1 Note

Dull, earthy and unbalanced, with tobacco and green tea flavors and bitter acids. Mainly Carignane from old vines. This could be a far better wine. 1 Note

Gets the job done with slight raspberry flavors and good acids. Dry and spicy. 1 Note
