Jean-Luc Colombo Rhône-style Red Blend -1998 (WE-70107)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A less successful vintage, the ’98 Les Ruchets shows some aged garnet color and more mature aromas of tobacco and dried cherries. Light in weight and cedary, this is ready to drink. 1 Note

Domaine du Tunnel Syrah -2005 (WE-73158)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Shows superripe, almost jammy aromas of cherries and plums, but those are balanced by sprinklings of minerals and spice. Creamy on the palate, the wine gains focus on the finish, where it leans toward cranberries and dusty tannins. Hold until 2012, at least. 1 Note

Éric & Jöel Durand Syrah -2005 (WE-73109)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Makers of more forward Cornas, the Durand brothers’ Prémice bottling is easy to drink right away, even in a tannic vintage like 2005. It’s ripely fruity and raspberry-scented, with grace notes of smoke, vanilla and spice. Drink now–2015. 1 Note

Éric & Jöel Durand Syrah -2005 (WE-73110)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

From vines more than 50 years old, this is a surprisingly lush, forward Cornas from a vintage known at most domaines for its hard tannins. Black cherry fruit surrounds a core of dense mineral flavors, with light touches of wood on the finish. It’s approachable now but should easily hold until at least 2015. 1 Note

Dumien-Serrette Syrah -2005 (WE-73156)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This won’t be released until the end of 2007, and honestly it needs a little time to relax. Right now, it’s tight and a bit austere, with crisp red fruit flavors and a firm foundation. Try after 2009. 1 Note

Cave de Tain Syrah -1999 (WE-17245)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Classic cool Syrah perfumes, with just a hint of animale, are the fine opening for this dense, tannic wine, with ripe but sweet, dusty flavors. Strong on power and acidity, this is still very young, and will benefit from at least six years of cellaring. 1 Note

Domaine des Remizières Rhône-style Red Blend -2000 (WE-17251)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Philippe Desmeure has two small parcels of the Hermitage hill, near Jaboulet’s La Chapelle vineyard. With malolactic fermentation in the barrel, and 100% new wood, this wine, named after his daughter, has sweetness, richness, black fruits and firm, dry tannins. This sample was spoiled by an animal rusticity that may fade as the wine ages. 1 Note

Alain Graillot Syrah -1999 (WE-17252)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Alain Graillot, chemical industry executive turned farmer, is showing how good Crozes-Hermitage really can be. The 1999 vintage of his special cuvée, La Guiraude, is a powerful, but bright wine, full of red fruits and firm tannins and balancing acidity. Raisins and rich fruit join the mixture that goes to make an immediately enticing wine, but one that should age over the next 10 years. 1 Note

Domaine des Remizières Syrah -2000 (WE-17257)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A long maceration and aging on large 600-liter barrels has given this wine a dominance of fruit flavors. Aromas of violets and ripe fruits follow on the palate with red fruits, fine tannins, spices and a good twist of acidity. 1 Note

Delas Frères Marsanne -2004 (WE-63120)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Although this wine shows hints of honeyed citrus, the house style for the whites at Delas is one of freshness and austerity, not richness. Finishes crisp and clean. 1 Note
