Domaine de Fontavin Rhône-style Red Blend -2004 (WE-62074)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

It’s an unusual blend of 75% Grenache (typical) and 25% Mourvèdre (atypical), which may account for some of its individuality. There’s some cola and treebark murkiness to the aromas, but then the Grenache shines through on the palate, adding bright raspberry notes and a creamy texture. Supple and maybe a little delicate, but pretty. Drink now. 1 Note

Recently bottled, some initial hints of sulfur give way to bold cherry and apricot notes; the blend is 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah. It’s round and full in the mouth, with ample tannins. This youthful wine could use another 1–2 years of cellaring—that, or some red meat. 1 Note

Domaine Chaume-Arnaud Rhône-style Red Blend -2004 (WE-61851)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

This wine displays a nicely balanced bouquet that melds dried cherries and dried spices. On the palate, those same elements persist, joined by dusty minerality and a chalky note on the finish. 1 Note

Barton & Guestier Rhône-style Red Blend -2000 (WE-24182)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This Rhone blend is filled with ripe, sweet juicy flavors of raspberries, cherries and tobacco, and is very delicious. It’s also very soft in acids and tannins, an easy wine that goes down like silk and velvet. Pretty direct and simple, but pleasant. 1 Note

Domaine Beaumont Rosé -2005 (WE-61570)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Pale rosé in color, with a hint of copper. Aromas are striking, like fresh apples and limes. Can a Rhône rosé be Riesling-ish? This one is certainly fresh and floral, ending on a peppery, herbal note. Crisp and dry. 1 Note

La Bastide Saint Dominique Rhône-style Red Blend -2008 (WE-116806)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This cuvée is 80% Syrah aged in oak, and it shows in the wine’s pungent notes of espresso, black olive and cured meat (the balance is tank-aged Grenache). Drink this full-bodied Côtes du Rhône over the next several years. 1 Note

Domaine la Millière Rhône-style Red Blend -2003 (WE-61783)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

An interesting wine that appears to be at its peak maturity, the 2003 Millière features elegant leather and spice notes on the nose, followed by plenty of dried fruit flavors. It’s supple, but seems a bit light on the midpalate. Drink now. 1 Note

Balma Venitia Rhône-style Red Blend -2005 (WE-61791)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

From Les Vignerons de Beaumes de Venise, this is a cheery, light-bodied Côtes-du-Rhône. Pretty cherry flavors lack much substance but do quench a thirst. Try serving it chilled with light meals, like you might a simple Beaujolais. 1 Note
