It's the rare NZ Riesling we see in this country that's from Martinborough, but Nga Waka's 2001 makes a strong case for the continued production of Riesling in an area that's better known for Burgundian varieties. Floral on the nose, with bright citrusy fruit on the palate and almost ephemerally light, this is an ideal aperitif wine. 1 Note

Intense stuff; hits on the nose like a bomb packed with fresh green veggies and vibrant passion fruit, mango and stone fruits. Slides across the palate with ease courtesy of prime acidity. From a region better known for Burgundian varieties, this Sauvignon Blanc has turned out well. Passion fruit, peaches and gooseberries flow across the palate, which features a bit of creaminess. A hint of capsicum (green pepper) intensifies on the finish. 1 Note

Pretty standard in terms of flavor profile, but well-executed, marrying toasty, pain grille aromas with flavors of vanilla, ripe pears and melon. Medium- to full-bodied, it finishes with a flourish of oak and spice. 1 Note

This wine appears to be at its peak, showing some developed notes of kerosene to go with apple and citrus flavors. It’s medium-bodied (12% abv) and just barely off dry (7.8 g/l). Enticing notes of Earl Grey grace the nose, while the finish is long, crisp and refreshing. 1 Note

A super value in Pinot Noir, just so long as you don’t expect a bright, berry-scented wine. This is a dark, mysteriously earthy and herbal Pinot, with savory, spicy elements backed by dark fruit and a long, dusty finish. Drink it now and over the next few years. 1 Note

This medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc features some nice lime and grapefruit flavors, but it turns tart, chalky and almost metallic on the finish. It’s certainly zesty, but it clangs off the rim instead of swooshing straight on through. 1 Note
