W. & J. Graham's Port -NV (WE-32792)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Crusted Port is an intermediate category between LBV and vintage. It is bottled with a crust or sediment, allowing it to age in the bottle like a vintage Port, but is not released until three years after bottling. Graham’s Crusted is still young, showing bright, peppery fruit, ripeness and dryness along with sweet black flavors and vibrant acidity to finish. 1 Note

Quinta do Vesuvio Port -2000 (WE-32799)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Quinta do Vesuvio is owned by the Symington family but managed separately from the family’s shipping brands (Dow, Graham, Warre). Vesuvio’s immense terraces and vast open lagares for fermentation, have produced a suitably dense, dark, brooding 2000, perfumed with violets and bursting with solid tannins. This is a great vintage wine.- 1 Note

Burmester Port -NV (WE-41987)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This really fits the bill for an easy-drinking, rich style of Port. Packed with aromatic fruit, herbs, chocolate and tannins, it combines sweetness with ripeness and structure. There is a dark, dry aftertaste that adds complexity. 1 Note

Vista Alegre Port -2003 (WE-48838)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

From the Vista Alegre vineyard in the Pinhão valley, this Port is powerfully perfumed, with great black-cherry flavors and acidity. It has good structure, but is generally relatively simple and easy to appreciate. 1 Note

Taylor Fladgate Port -1995 (WE-37684)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

At almost 10 years of age, this mammoth effort is just starting to budge along the path to maturity. The nose is rich with scents of baking spices; the palate shows plenty of plum and blackberry fruit, but is more about earth, spice and raw power. This tremendously deep, powerful and structured wine should be even better by 2010, with a plateau of maturity that should extend out to 2040 or beyond. 1 Note

Taylor Fladgate Port -1997 (WE-37685)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The most forward of the trio of Vargellas Vinha Velhas, the 1997 may be approachable by 2010, but should last until 2030 or beyond. It's lush, yet powerfuly structured, filled with a complex array of flavors that includes earth, tobacco, tea and gobs of briary, berry-scented fruit. 1 Note

Taylor Fladgate Port -2000 (WE-37686)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The youngest of Taylor Fladgate's Vargellas old vines bottling offers considerable aging potential. It's richly tannic and chewy in the mouth; firm on the finish. The noble structure amply supports dried spices, chocolate amd plum flavors. Try after 2015. 1 Note

Taylor Fladgate Port -1900 (WE-65154)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Medium amber in color, this wine shows aged notes of honey, caramel and dried fig, picking up hints of heat and spice on the finish. Relative to the 1908 and 1927 it lacks body and richness; at this stage of its evolution, it’s a wine of historic significance rather than any great hedonistic value. 1 Note

Bonfiglio Pignoletto -2003 (WE-58494)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

The sweet, honey-like flavors present here are rich, opulent and reinforced by floral aromas of honeysuckle, acacia and bee’s wax. This wine is thick and creamy in the mouth but leaves a crisp clean feel on the palate nonetheless. 1 Note

Türk Grüner Veltliner -2005 (WE-64079)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

From botrytized grapes picked at the first frost on November 25, 2005, this is intensely sweet. But--as with all good Eiswein--it is poised on a knife-edge with acidity as intense as the sweetness. This is a fine, elegant wine, which will repay cellaring for at least three years. 1 Note
