Made from mountain vineyards, this blend of Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz is steely and mineral in character from the granite soil. It has tight edges of tannins, followed by black currant fruits and a juicy aftertaste. That dryness needs maybe 2–3 years to soften, but, already as a food wine, this could be drunk with pleasure. 1 Note

Smooth and dry, with appealing flavors of blackberries, cherries, currants and cedar, and a fine, spicy finish. Shows amazing style and elegance for the price. A real sommelier’s bargain, with 2,853 cases produced. 1 Note

A soft, red-fruited wine, with attractive acidity to go with the ripeness. It is open, the tannins just a hint and the berries bringing a jammy finish. 1 Note

Red fruit, sucking candy and milk chocolate cover the bouquet, but the palate is sharp and raw, with spiky, semisour raspberry and cherry flavors. There isn’t much to this wine. It’s sharp, edgy, elastic and lean. On the plus side, it’s clean. 1 Note

Smoke and herb aromas meet caramel and cherry flavors in this unassuming little Merlot. It’s nicely creamy on the palate, and you could do a lot worse than if your local restaurant was offering this as its house pour for $6 per glass. 1 Note

Despite being only medium-bodied and featuring some tart, lemony notes on the finish, this seems a touch ponderous, with earthy flavors dominating blackberry fruit. 1 Note

A quaffable if somewhat innocuous Côtes-du-Rhône with modest cherry fruit. The blend of 60% Grenache, 30% Syrah and the remainder Cinsault and Mourvèdre is medium-bodied, then thins out a bit on the finish. 1 Note

A nice, simple, easy to handle Cabernet is what you’re getting here. Root beer, blackberry and spice aromas work the nose, followed by slightly medicinal but generally big and bold black-fruit flavors. Generally speaking, this is a very good everyday Cab that won’t hurt the wallet. 1 Note
