With intensely concentrated fruit on the palate, it’s plush with a rich, full-bodied texture, but balanced by wonderfully soft tannins and a vibrant sour cherry acidity that carries through to a long finish. 1 Note

Tasted alongside the burly 2004, this wine is slightly more dry and dusty. Its nose offers Odfjell’s patented richness and ripeness along with kirsch and candy. But with all that, it’s balanced and pushes up against elegance. There’s even a hint of mushroom and Sherry if you dig deep enough. Interesting for Cab Franc, but very different than the Loire or Bordeaux version; this is much riper. 1 Note

Operating as a charity, the Hospices de Saumur owns vineyards that have been donated over the years. This Saumur Champigny has intense medicinal aromas, followed by some firm, dry tannins. It shows fresh berry fruits, but also weight from concentrated mint and black plum skin structure. The finish is dry and firm. 1 Note

A very appealing nose of bright cherry and spice is followed by flavors of tea, spice and red berry in the mouth. Good body and tannins and a lingering finish make it a unique choice from a somewhat unknown region. 1 Note
