Clean but weightless, with little substance or stuffing to it. This is a cool-climate, Patagonian Chard from young vines, hence it is reticent and watery. The winery’s pricier Patagonian Select is a better option. 1 Note

The Oxford Landing wines take a different stylistic tack than many of the similarly priced Oz counterparts. This is a relatively restrained Chardonnay, featuring melon and pear fruit and a touch of dried spices, but no overtly tropical notes and minimal oak influence, making it more versatile with food. 1 Note

Great price for a Chard of this quality. Dry, crisp and amply flavored in peaches and cream, tangerines and buttered toast, it has the richness of more costly wines. 1 Note

Pretty thin going, almost like a Sauvignon Blanc with its tart, citrusy fruit flavors and high acidity. Not a bad wine, but if you’re looking for a rich, oaky Chardonnay, shop around. 1 Note

This wine’s toast, thyme and amber maple syrup notes are a little mute to start, but gain on the palate with a little yellow fruit peeking through. Light and clean throughout, this is a natural for cocktail hour. 1 Note

The gold luster is eye grabbing, and the nose doesn’t back off as it yields cream, vanilla and toast atop tropical fruit. The mouth is full, with creamy pear and apple fruit and lots of oak. It’s on the plus side in terms of power and weight, but it’s largely balanced and clean. 1 Note

This Chard is 100% barrel fermented, with battonage once a week; 70% of the barrels were new. Snyman admits that it saw “maybe a touch too much new wood,” a statement with which the panel was inclined to agree. Yellow fruit and toasty wood stand out on the palate; the nose offers nice nut and floral notes, and gets toastier with aeration. 15,000 cases produced. 1 Note

The bright golden color and mounds of buttery oak don’t do this varietally incorrect Chard much service. Then giant oaky flavors dominate what little pear fruit exists, while the finish is grainy and resinous. Overall it lacks focus and style. 1 Note
