“Fresh and dry” is what the wine label advertises and is exactly what it delivers. It’s a simple wine with tones of delicate kiwi, fresh fruit and some soapy floral aromas. In the mouth, it is compact and racy with a lean, spicy finish. 1 Note

Bright citrus aromas lead into a forward, fruit-driven Gavi (the name refers both to the wine and the town of origin). A dry, slatey finish, bracing tartness, and a hint of almond make for a nice, easy-drinking wine that is a good example of the style. 1 Note

From the family’s oldest vines and best-situated vineyard, this unusually rich Gavi is 100% barrel fermented and aged. Beautifully balanced, with a creamy mouthfeel, lemony fruit and just a touch of vanilla and spice from the oak. 1 Note

This is a broad and sophisticated Gavi sparkler with rich aromas of mature peach, pear, toasted bread, yeast and lemon meringue. The wine is textured and dense in the mouth but its lively effervescence keeps it fresh and zippy on the close. 1 Note

I have to admit: I 've never "gotten" this wine. This ne plus ultra of Gavi just doesn't do it for me. Vaguely sweaty aromas join almond and unripe peach scents on the nose, followed up by lemony, underripe flavors. 1 Note

The Black label is the flagship of La Scolca; it is a more harmonious wine than the regular bottling, without its edginess. The nose is reticent, a touch of apple and vanilla, expanding into a rich seamless palate, but like its sibling, is marred by its finish, which is a little short. 1 Note

Linear mineral tones create an elegant frame for floral aromas and peach flavors. This is a thin wine, but also a very clean one with fresh acidity and citrus zest that wash clear over the palate. 1 Note
