Dry and delicate with mixed fresh herbs, melon, green berry, spice and rock—lots of rock. It shows surprising length and develops nicely in the throat, seeming to add flesh as you taste. A really nice bottle. 1 Note

A solid value from the Northern Rhône, the 2007 Petite Ruche is a broad, mouthfilling wine that doesn't go over the top. Instead, the honey, peach and citrus notes gain focus on the slightly oily finish, picking up hints of truffle along the way. Drink now. 1 Note

High alcohol gives this a peppery heat, lots of wood makes it oaky, and the tropical fruit flavors are ripe and spicy. At tasting, this had not quite meshed together yet. Give it another six months. 1 Note

Pure Marsanne, a gorgeous bottle, vivid with brightly illuminated stone fruits, citrus rind, a streak of caramel and a full-throttle finish. Full-bodied, long-lasting and flavored somewhere between a rich Chardonnay and a high-toned Viognier. 1 Note

Bee pollen, honey mead and lemon polish mingle in the bouquet; turning smooth and supple in the mouth. This is a rich and buttery wine, with excellent acidity behind the ripe fruit. The flavors gather strength as the wine pours over the tongue and down the back of the throat, finishing with a lick of butterscotch. 1 Note

Very complex, did not like it at first... found it to be a little too acidic... but eventually grew on us - paired well with the roasted chicken - made an excellent au jus. 2 Notes

Made from the vineyards of Grippat and de Vallouit, which Guigal recently bought, this is a firm, surprisingly closed wine at this stage, with a bright mineral character, new wood and rich fruit. It needs three or four more years to open out and develop. 1 Note

Somewhat meaty, with chunky apricot and pear aromas as well as apple, lemon and herb flavors. There’s good power here, more so than poise, so while it’s short on complexity, it’s full-flavored and forward. 1 Note

Northern Rhône winemakers are still talking up the 2004 vintage for whites, and this is one example of why. Despite a hint of vanilla and toast, this wine’s clean, minerally aromas break through, and while the mouthfeel is broad and creamy, there’s ample balancing acidity. Gentle oak spice marks the finish, which features a mouthwatering quality that brings you back for another sip. 1 Note

Has that sort of glue or paste-like note that Marsanne sometimes shows, but it’s also fresh and light on the palate, with decent concentration and an attractive anise or fennel note on the finish. 1 Note
