Good everyday Merlot here, a little on the rustic side, but offering plenty of ripe, tasty plum, blackberry, coffee and cocoa flavors. The grapes are from the San Lucas appellation, a warmer region on the road toward Paso Robles. 1 Note

This one veers a little toward the light side, but it’s solid and well crafted, with clear red-fruit aromas, flavors of dried cherries and plums, and a fresh, acidic finish that supports the wine’s simple structure. Some dark chocolate on the back end adds weight and masculinity. 1 Note

This is an unbelievable price for a Napa Merlot of this quality. The wine is softly tannic, dry and rich, with crisp acidity balancing complex flavors of cherries, currants, herbs, violets and cedar. Taste this against Merlots costing five times as much, and it will acquit itself well. 1 Note
