Mille e Una Notte is a modern, thickly extracted Nero d’Avola-based red wine with elegant tones of blackberry, plum, spice, vanilla and clove. Its long finish ends with chewy tannins and excellent succulence. Donnafugata recently completed an ambitious Bordeaux-style underground cellar (among the biggest in southern Italy) for aging this showcase wine. 1 Note

One of the best wines made on the beautiful island of Sicily, Donnafugata’s Mille e Una Notte exhibits gorgeous smoothness in the mouth and exceedingly rich aromas of black currants, chocolate, spice and tobacco. Under all that are notes of toasted almond and pistachio that are characteristic of the Nero d’Avola grape. 1 Note

One of my all time favorites, I first tried this Sicilian wine at an Italian restaurant in Chicago. The acidity is very pleasing, and pairs nicely with either a tomato or a cream-based sauce. Very flavorful without being overbearing. 1 Note
