Smells kind of confected, like blueberry fruit roll-up. There’s intensity on the front palate, but it fades away as quickly as it came. Offers anise and berry flavors, and a metallic hint on the finish. 1 Note

An eccentric wine, bordering on the bizarre, although it has some nice elements. Starts with aromas of cotton candy and raspberry fruit tart, and drinks extracted and jammy, with raspberry-red cherry flavors. High acids and dusty tannins make for a rough mouthfeel. —S.H. 1 Note

This variety, not usually used on its own, has produced an inky dark wine of considerable power and ample tannins. The blackberry and rhubarb fruit has great depth, and is very dry. It’s not a bad wine, but seems better suited as a blender to Cabernet Sauvignon. It just might be interesting in 6–8 years. —S.H. 1 Note

Harsh in texture, this simple wine has sweet-and-sour cherry, blackberry and tangerine flavors. 1 Note

This is, perhaps, one of the strangest wines I have ever tasted. The aromas are of the sea—brine and seaweed—over a smidge of blackberry fruit. Ditto the palate. Medium-bodied, not too tannic, and ends with a black peppery note that evens out once the wine sits for a few minutes. Bizarre. 1 Note
