Similar to Pinot Noir, with the same silky tannins and light body. But the cherry flavors veer in an herbal direction, suggesting oregano and sage. This wine is very dry and a bit austere, although it’s elegant. 1 Note
A bit shy in aroma, but airing reveals tea, cola, root beer and cocoa notes. The flavors are of tart cranberries, cherries and vanilla. Very dry, and a nice finish. Give it a year to mellow. 1 Note
Dried spices, dusty earth and steely red fruit mesh well in this wine, which closes with enticing cherry and bitter chocolate notes. This wine is toasty, oh-so-smooth, and undeniably plush and seductive. Share this with someone special. 1 Note
This variety is commonly used in Champagne but rarely vinified on its own. This wine shows why. It’s like Pinot Noir in the silky texture, but feels jagged and harsh, and the fruit tastes a little baked and sugary. 1 Note
Named after a parcel of vines, this superripe wine is made exclusively of Pinot Meunier—it’s rare to taste a wine entirely from this grape. Besides being full-bodied, it is also very minerally in character, it has a steely quality which suggests the ability to age well. Applause to Dehours for indicating the disgorgement date on the back label. 1 Note
