A Wine

Bodega Norton Torrontés -2003 (WE-33187)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Smells like it should, with light, exotic lychee aromas as well as notes of wildflower. In the mouth, it’s a bit more meaty and a touch less zesty than ideal, and it finishes soft. But along the way it’s tasty and would match well with take-out Chinese food. 1 Note

Fantelli Torrontés -2004 (WE-49652)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Mildly floral with lemon-lime and anise. But that’s initially; after that it really doesn’t hold its form. Flavors of melon and honey are sweet but not that convincing, while the feel is textured, bordering on syrupy. Imported by Kensington Distributors Inc. 1 Note

Rio Seco Torrontés -2008 (WE-99814)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Overdone aromas of candle wax, incense and air freshener show the musky side of the grape, while the palate is heavy with nectarine and citrus flavors. Finishes a little pithy and mealy, with a final wave of muskiness. 1 Note

La Vuelta Torrontés -2009 (WE-109975)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A little flat, but the nose is adequately melony, so give it points for that. The palate is on the plump, lower-acid side, so the green fruit and lychee flavors are fleshy. Finishes solid but soft. Drink this year. 1 Note

Santa Julia Torrontés -2002 (WE-13825)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

After Chardonnay, Torrontés is Argentina’s other white. This one is light and semisweet, with nice acids, a pretty floral bouquet and simple but clean melon, kiwi and lychee flavors. Once the white grape of 16th-century Spanish missionaries, Torrontés has adapted well to Argentina, just about the only place it’s grown these days. 1 Note

Bodega Privada Torrontés -2002 (WE-34267)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Heavily perfumed and flowery, but lacking verve and precision. The mouth tosses up meaty apple fruit accented by cinnamon and nutmeg, while the finish is spicy and forward. 1 Note

La Puerta Torrontés -2005 (WE-54022)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Honey, flowers and a bit of mineral on the solid nose. This is full and ripe, with pretty melon, anise and other Southeast Asian flavors. A bit more full and extracted than most, but it’s neither flabby nor heavy. Imported by Ecosur Group, LLC. 1 Note

Santa Julia Torrontés -2007 (WE-74353)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A perennial Best Buy among Argentinean Torrontes, Santa Julia always puts out a true and consistent product. The nose on the 2007 offers lime and flower blossoms, while the weighty, slightly creamy palate shows melon and papaya. Made in a riper, fuller style. Drink now. 1 Note

Santa Julia Torrontés -2005 (WE-54389)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Not unkind aromas of bath oil and flowers set the stage for slightly pithy citrus and melon flavors. Registers as chunky in the mouth, with additional pith and a slight bitterness to the finish. Pretty good overall. 1 Note

Varietally floral, with spice, tropical fruit and citrus on the nose. Clean and wispy on the palate, with touches of lemon extract, banana and pineapple. A zesty, easy white wine; best as an apéritif. 1 Note
