Bodegas Cerrosol Verdejo -2001 (WE-25410)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

There are a number of sensational Verdejo-based whites from this region, but this isn’t one of them. The nose is heavy and creamy, while the palate is overdone yet bland. The dry, acidic palate is fresh enough, but where’s the flavor? Not terrible, but not very good. 1 Note

Tienen Duende Verdejo -2005 (WE-64833)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Very fresh and citrusy, which is a style that Rueda can do well. The nose is pure citrus blossom and mineral, and the crisp palate never loses focus while delivering quick bursts of lemon, orange and green apple. A wine that’s good and easy to comprehend. 1 Note

Mar de Castilla Verdejo -2005 (WE-58142)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Gets off the mark a bit chunky and soft, with heavier than usual peach and melon aromas. Melon, papaya and green banana carry the plump, full-bodied palate to a soft, easy, almost shy finish. Weighty for Verdejo. 1 Note

Tienen Duende Verdejo -2007 (WE-100625)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Seems sort of waxy and baked, with mildly acrid aromas of burnt corn leading the way. The palate has an o.k. feel but the flavors are rather bitter and burnt, and the fruit isn’t pointed or expressive. May already be past its prime. Imported by Winery Exchange. 1 Note

Condesa de Leganza Verdejo -2009 (WE-131556)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Salinic on the nose in that it smells like a swimming pool with some chlorine. The palate has a generic, average feel and short, basic flavors of citrus and pineapple. A regular quaffing wine to drink now or never. 1 Note

Viña Cantosán Verdejo -2008 (WE-104807)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Dusty, flat and about half oxidized, this is a bland version of Verdejo that isn’t unpalatable but lags behind the field. Hits with a thud; very little life to it. 1 Note

Emina Verdejo -2006 (WE-76478)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Emina is a label under the Matarromera group, and this Rueda white (80% Verdejo and 20% Viura) is light, clean and a touch flowery. But mostly it pumps forth with simple orange and grapefruit qualities along with lemon drops on the finish. Drink now. 1 Note

Garciarevalo Verdejo -2005 (WE-67110)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Light and floral on the nose, and medium in intensity and acidity. Flavors of apple, green melon and citrus are clean and crisp, and overall the wine is a model of freshness. Drink it sooner rather than later; it’s a touch on the soft side. 1 Note

Tapeña Verdejo -2007 (WE-92352)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Apple and modest dusty white-fruit aromas are about all you’ll get from the neutral bouquet, while the palate is sweet and a little candied, with apple and mango flavors. Fleshy and chunky, but good enough to enjoy in a casual setting. Probably a good base wine for white sangria. 1 Note

Tapeña Verdejo -2008 (WE-108835)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

A consistent wine from year to year that’s made in a friendly, mass-appeal style. It’s not so pungent and citrusy like some Verdejo; instead it’s more peachy, sweet and melony. Soft on the finish but with just enough acidity to get it through the year. 1 Note
