Certainly a buttery, toasty wine, but there’s enough peach fruit here to back it up. It’s medium-full in the mouth, with a resinous feel; finishes with good length. Oaky, but enjoyable. 1 Note

A nicely balanced Chardonnay, marrying subtle buttered apple notes with bolder notes of toasted hazelnut and white peaches. It’s got a silky texture and plenty of intensity on the fresh, citrusy finish. Drink now–2012. 1 Note

Kicks off with nutty, meaty aromas that move easily into apple and pear flavors. Marked by ripe fruit—Golden Delicious apples—and spice, finishing with echoes of clove and cinnamon. 1 Note

This is still quite dark in color, right to the rim, and it overflows with complex aromas of flowers, herbs, tobacco, cassis and subtle oaking. Firmly structured, but the tannins are ripe, not hard, while the flavors bring waves of cassis, plum, tobacco and vanilla without ever seeming overly rich or jammy. Drink this wonderfully harmonious offering from 2008–2015. 1 Note

Fine oaky tannins make for a sturdy frame; red-brown fruit fills in the picture, with mocha accents on the palate and finish. A very good, solid Cab. 1 Note

This shows classically leafy Cabernet character balanced by deep cassis fruit, well integrated oak and supple tannins. It’s slightly creamy without being overly soft or plush, retaining Cabernet’s distinctly restrained feel on the palate. Long and smooth on the finish. Now–2016. 1 Note

Full-bodied and rich, Cape Mentelle’s 2002 Cab Sauvignon is a slightly minty wine, but relies more on ripe cassis and chocolate flavors for power and weight. The silkiness of the tannins suggests only 2–3 more years are needed before this wine really hits its stride. 1 Note
