94-96 Barrel sample. Elegance and fruit are the hallmarks at Latour in 2008. The tannins are present, but subdued. The balance is what is impressive, with tight ripe fruits, nothing over-stated. 1 Note

93-95 Ripely juicy wine, with great spice and fruit. It has delicious black currant flavors, very marked with acidity. The power is certainly there, but the wine has as much style as weight. 1 Note

97-99. This has great beauty, with delicious fruits at the beginning. The structure comes from behind, with such sweet fruit tannins, then chocolate, an edge of wood and finally acidity reigns supreme. 1 Note

96-98 Barrel sample. So velvet, you cannot imagine that this is also a powerfully dense and tannic wine. The black berry fruits have just the right ripeness, while the texture is soft, spiced a little with wood. Under the extreme richness, powerful chocolate and delicious final acidity. 1 Note

92-94 Barrel sample. A powerful, but velvet textured wine, the tannins dusty and sweet. There is great acidity here, the fruit soft, hiding its power. The aftertaste has lively acidity. 1 Note

95-97 Barrel Sample A ripe wine, showing some concentration but less than in some years at Latour. The acidity. however, is evident, giving a structured , fresh but powerful wine. There is spice from the new wood, but this certainly does not dominate. 1 Note

This is such an expressive wine, with elegance a major factor in its character. It is certainly huge, rich and dense. But there is much more to it. You can peel layers of fruit and tannins away, and still never get to the end of the wine’s complexity. At every stage of its life, it will reveal a new character, but for now it is dominated by powerful tannins and huge, black, fruit. 1 Note
