Leathery and smoky, with woodsy aromas as well as the essence of dried red fruits. Like many classic Rioja, it’s a touch racy and acidic, but that zest pushes the cherry, cranberry and raspberry fruit toward an even finish. As a whole it’s snappy, with a solid core. 1 Note

Like you might expect from a maturing gran reserva, Imaz offers glimpses of raisin, sweet berry and even some aged cheese. In the mouth, it’s all about red fruit, although an earthy undertone provides some background. Feels a little stark, zesty and lean, while the finish is solid and tastes of vanilla and leather. Bright, expressive, fleshy—all words that came up again and again describing this wine’s fruit, from nose to finish. The core is mostly blackberry, with mixed plums and a dash of oak; it’s medium-full, mouthfilling but not huge. Finsihes with some chewy tannins, and an almost beefy flavor.
