A Wine

Jim Barry Shiraz -1997 (WE-12039)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This very impressive juice shows a rich, complex nose of blackberry, earth, saddle leather, cocoa, molasses and a lovely mint element. The rich, syrupy mouthfeel supports similar ripe flavors. The long finish is deeply fruited, with handsome fig, smoke and licorice notes. Solid stuff—can drink now, but it’s built to last and will be best 2004–2012 and beyond. Cellar Selection. 1 Note

Jim Barry Cabernet Sauvignon -2004 (WE-102604)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Jim Barry’s luxury Cabernet is amazingly fresh and youthful even six years after the harvest, which bodes well for its longevity. Cassis fruit and barrel char pick up herbal, tobacco-like shadings on the palate, which is full bodied while at the same time showing Cabernet’s characteristic restraint. Drink 2014–2025. 1 Note

Jim Barry Cabernet Sauvignon -2002 (WE-78969)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

For a late-release 2002, this is still very youthful, packing layers of rich cassis and blackberry fruit into a soft jacket of vanilla, cedar and toasted coconut. It’s full-bodied, lush and velvety—a simply terrific Cabernet that should prove to have excellent aging potential as well. Drink now–2020. 1 Note

Intensely toasty on the nose, along with powerful menthol notes that persist from start to finish. This full-bodied, almost syrupy-concentrated Shiraz features plums and blackberries that take on a slightly medicinal cast, finishing on a fresh, resiny note. Try after 2016. 1 Note
