A touch buttery on the nose at first, this wine quickly shows mango, vanilla and toast aromas. Big in the mouth, but with a firm line of acidity to hold it in check, the warm flavors of tropical fruits are backed by plenty of toasty, spicy oak. Mulderbosch “Faithful Hound” Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon -2001

Produced from a blend of 42% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Malbec, 8% Petit Verdot, and 6% Cabernet Franc, the wine opens with a nose reflective of the French style; lots of black fruits, sweet, ripe, earthen, cedar and spice notes with some classic herbal tones; sweet in the mouth, good reflection of black fruits; there is a healthy presence of tannins, not yet resolved but that appear to be well integrated; the wine does not have much depth though, and although the flavors are expressive, I wonder about how much this wine will improve as it ages. (16/20) 1 Note
