A Wine

Oxford Landing Grenache -1998 (WE-9810)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

Deceptively light in color, this wine nevertheless packs a wallop, with a hefty 14.5% alcohol. The delicate—almost Burgundian—cherries start off buried by oak and alcohol, but after some airing the flavors come together in a pleasant mélange of Bing cherries, maple syrup and caramel, accented on the finish by a touch of black pepper. Best Buy. 1 Note

Oxford Landing Viognier -1998 (WE-2252)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Aromas of honey, tangerine and apricot open to a flavorful but not too sweet palate of apple, nutmeg and spice flavors. Good, but a bit short and light on the back end. 1 Note

A bland McIntosh apple-and-pistachio bouquet ushers you into a solid but uninspiring palate of dark black berry fruit, oak and anise. Wintergreen and oak flavors dominate the finish 1 Note

This medium-bodied Pinot Grigio blends underripe pear notes with hints of nasturtium and flintiness, while a hint of bitterness emerges on the finish. Overall, it’s clean, correct and refreshing. 1 Note

Oxford Landing Rhône-style Red Blend -2008 (WE-123711)

Most Recent Tasting Note:

Profile Image

This blend of 45% Grenache, 28% Shiraz and 27% Mourvèdre does show a trace of heat in its finish, but is otherwise a pleasant, medium-bodied sipper at a realistic price. Tart, slightly minty cherries feature undercurrents of chocolate and coffee, turning crisp and lemony on the finish. Drink now. 1 Note

Oxford Landing Viognier -2009 (WE-128883)

Yes, it is possible to find real Viognier character for $10 per bottle (conceivably $6 by the glass). Featuring ample fruit balanced by crisp acids, this is very drinkable stuff. This wine’s modest pear and apricot aromas lack some of the flamboyance of top examples, but this is still a very good effort. 1 Note
